Long wheel base version (LWB)

Volkswagen has stated on numerous occasions that North America will be getting a long-wheel-base version of the ID. Buzz.

In October 2022, Volkswagen released a teaser image of the LWB version in a presentation to investors [src]. While it is only an outline moved farther back from the existing bumper, we can assume that the ID. Buzz LWB version will be long enough to add substantial cargo room behind the third row seats.

According to Autogefühl, the long wheel base version will be 10 inches longer. We have been unable to find a Volkswagen source for that information.

Currently, the 7 seat version takes up most of the cargo space, and since the third row is inbetween the rear wheels, the width is narrower only allowing 2 seats in the third row.

With the longer wheel base, the third row will be in front of the rear wheels and will allow for a 3-person third row, which will allow for a 7 seat (with middle row captain chairs) and 8 seat option (with a middle row bench seat as pictured in the 7-seat short wheel base version above).

The rear overhang isn’t extended, the whole rear axle is moved rearward

We don’t know: Since the rear wheels are moved farther back, will the long-wheel-base model also include longer sliding doors for easier access to the third row?
